Knowing how to make kratom extract can be beneficial for people who have difficulty chewing crushed leaves or directly swallowing kratom powder or kratom paste. The best alternative is to use a kratom extract. The method used to make a concentrated form of it and the many ways to introduce it to your system makes it an ideal and flexible form of kratom source. Learn how to make kratom extract in these 5 easy steps!
How to Make Kratom Extract in 5 Easy Steps
1. Prepare The Following Materials
In order to make a kratom extract, you would need to choose which strain you prefer. It’s also best to perform this in a well-ventilated kitchen as some of the items are flammable.
- Ethanol;
- Your choice of kratom strain leaves;
- Glycerin to stabilize your kratom extract;
- Citric acid or any substitute, like lemon juice for extraction efficiency;
- Scale for measuring kratom leaves;
- Measuring cup for precise liquid measurements;
- Extraction bottle that’s both chemical and heat-resistant; and
- Amber or colored storage jars.
2. Weigh the Amount of Kratom Leaves to Be Used
If this is your first time making a kratom extract, it is always a best practice for you to measure the amount of kratom you’ll use. This way, you already have the amount on hand in case you need to make more in the future. It’s very important to have this kind of information, especially when you’re going to mix them with flammable ingredients later.
3. Steep the Leaves in Alcohol
In a large bowl, cover the kratom leaves with either 40 percent concentrated alcohol or 95 percent ethanol. Stir while adding the lemon juice, and let it steep or soak in water without any lid or covering. Steeping is needed to be done so the alcohol in the mixture will evaporate.
NOTE: Do make sure that you do not do this step near or on top of the stove as you will be using flammable ingredients. If you opt to use hot water, leave it for an hour, then repeat the step again. If you will use cold water, leave it steeping for a week.
4. Strain and Let the Liquid Evaporate
Using a fine strainer or a muslin sheet, strain the leaves out of the container. You’ll then be left with the liquid. Allow the liquid to evaporate until half of the original amount remains. During the evaporation process, make sure the container is in a hygienic environment so it won’t be contaminated with dust particles.
5. Measure, Label, and Store the Kratom Extract
Using a scale, measure the kratom extract to determine how strong the concentration is. Taking note of the data, store it in an amber-colored bottle and write the concentration strength on the bottle’s label. You also need to put in the date you made the extract so you can check how fresh the extract is later.
Before storing the kratom extract, add 5-10 percent glycerin into the extract. The glycerin helps preserve the extract and keep the extract from quickly evaporating. To enhance your extract’s potency, keep it in a cool, dark place.
Making a kratom extract is quite easy to do. Do keep in mind though that in making kratom extract, you have to exercise extreme caution as you will be working with sensitive items. Don’t hasten the process, as it requires patience to produce the best kratom extract you can use for your purposes.
